Bamboo Garden Reviews

Love their egg rolls & wonton soup! Pretty good beef fried rice. Mrs. Owner is very friendly & remembers you. Haven't been able to reach them by phone lately - hope they are still open.

This our go to place for Chinese take out. Staff is friendly, food is good and plentiful. Nice selection and dinner plate specials are a bargain.

Excellent takeout place with nice little space for eat-in customers. A limited menu for lunch specials but selection is broad enough to satisfy all and the regular menu is as full as any in the region. The ingredients were all fresh-tasting. We got the luncheon specials - chicken fingers with just the right amount of breading, the breast meat still moist and tender. The boneless ribs were delicately flavored and moist and tender. The pork strips were also delicious and very tender - 4"-diameter pork loin slices - very nice flavor. The fried rice was done to perfection with plenty of pork bits and ingredients other than rice. Now about the egg rolls - full, fresh, lots of cabbage and flavor. The "greasy" question - less than you'd expect from a food item that was deep-fried (in fresh, tasteless oil). Not the skinny, crusty, barely full wrapper of fast-food places. I'd be tempted to make a meal of them. The lo mein was sweeter than what we've had anywhere but not objectionably so (I don't care for teriyaki). We'll definitely be back - I'd like to try dining in.

I'm giving this five stars not because it is the most amazing Chinese food ever, but it is the best take out Chinese food I've had so far in Vermont. The places in Waterbury have been disappointing, and House of Tang in Montpelier is over-rated. It isn't gourmet, but it is good: anything fried is crispy and not greasy, the sauces have a lot of flavor, and things taste fresh. It is definitely going to be our go-to Chinese take out place. Only way it could get better is if they offered delivery!

FOOD: The Chinese food here is awesome and all their portions are on the large side. Personally, I've had their egg rolls, chicken wings, boneless spareribs, crab ranggons, beef teriyaki, pork fried rice, house fried rice, orange chicken, lemon chicken, General Tso's chicken and it is all good. The food is the main reason I gave them 5 stars. SERVICE: The service is good and fast. CLEANINESS: The place is clean. ATMOSPHERE: It feels like a small Chinese family-owned operation that takes pride in what they do. The dinning area is very basic feeling, but then again it's main focus is take out not dinning in. OTHER NOTES: The food that this place offers reminds me of how my parents cooked Chinese food.

Whether you're a local or just passing through Barre, there's something about the aroma from this cozy spot that makes it impossible to walk past without stopping in.
Bamboo Garden in Barre, VT: Where Locals Go for Flavor and Familiar Faces
Walk into Bamboo Garden, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the heart of Barre’s food scene. This isn’t just another place to eat—it’s a community favorite, where regulars know their go-to order by heart and newcomers are treated like old friends. The location, set on one of the most walkable stretches of South Main Street, makes it easy to pop in for a quick lunch or settle in for dinner with the family.
One local shared that their Friday tradition always includes a hot bowl of wonton soup and crispy General Tso’s chicken from Bamboo Garden—“nothing fancy, just full-on comfort,” they said. You’ll often hear diners talk about the food not just in terms of taste but in the way it reminds them of home. And that says a lot. The consistency in both flavor and service has made this spot a trusted go-to among other diners, especially when you're in the mood for generous portions and a menu that doesn’t hold back on variety.
The Menu That Keeps Barre Talking
Let’s talk about the menu, because that’s where Bamboo Garden really shines. Classic dishes like lo mein, sweet and sour pork, and kung pao chicken sit comfortably next to a few regional specialties you don’t always see outside big cities. They’ve even got a vegetarian section that doesn’t feel like an afterthought—think tofu stir-fried with seasonal veggies, flavored just right with sesame and ginger.
The way the kitchen handles each dish shows off some serious attention to detail. For instance, the orange chicken comes with just the right crisp and an orange glaze that hits both sweet and zesty notes without overpowering the palate. And if you’re dining in, pay attention to the way each plate is presented—simple, clean, but undeniably inviting. The combination plates are a hit for those who want a little of everything, especially with the classic fried rice and egg roll combo.
Everything here is cooked to order, which means it’s fresh every single time. That’s a rare promise that Bamboo Garden delivers on daily. Add to that the affordable prices, and you’ve got a spot that earns repeat visits not just for what’s on the plate, but for how it makes you feel when you leave full and satisfied.
Friendly Vibes and Familiar Smiles
Step inside during lunch hour, and you’ll see a mix of solo diners catching up on local news, families enjoying a quiet meal, and the occasional out-of-towner who just Googled “best Chinese food in Barre.” No matter where you’re from, you’re greeted with a genuine smile from staff who remember your name—and your order, if you’ve been around a few times.
That personal touch is part of what makes Bamboo Garden feel more like a neighborhood diner than a formal restaurant. The staff are always quick to recommend a new dish if you're looking to switch things up, and they’re not shy about sharing what they love from the kitchen. That kind of hospitality sticks with you.
And let’s not forget about the reviews. A quick look online shows a pattern: people consistently mention the “great service,” “super tasty food,” and “good value.” That’s not just marketing—it’s a reflection of what folks genuinely experience. While some say the decor is nothing flashy, almost every review points to how reliably good the food is and how much they appreciate the welcoming staff.

Next time you’re near 115 S Main St, don’t just drive by. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, walk into Bamboo Garden and taste what keeps the locals coming back.
Good food and reasonable pricing. The lady that greeted us was nice as well. Only thing I found that could use improvement was the outside walking up to the restraint was difficult and large puddles.
